How do I point my domain to my Joyent web server?

This feature is available to plans with Full Domain Control added.  Click here to find out more

Pointing your domain to your Joyent web server makes it easier than connecting with an IP addressSet it up now in a few simple clicks

First, you will need your Joyent machine's public IP address.  Log into your Joyent account here to access your machine's public IP address

Your machine has two IP addresses: a public IP address and a private IP address. You will need to locate the Public IP address for this setup

You can find both addresses addresses in the Machine Details page of your machine in the Joyent portal by logging in here

Private addresses are in one of the following ranges:

  • 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
  • 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
  • 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255

Public addresses are outside the private address ranges.

Example:
The Machine Details page lists your machine's IP addresses as 10.12.28.4, 165.225.144.149.

The public address is 165.225.144.149.
The private address is 10.12.28.4.

Once you have your Joyent Public IP address, complete the setup on your POP account

Log into your POP account and click Domain Settings on Domain Name

Under the Simple DNS tab, click to toggle on Joyent.  Enter your Public Server IP address and confirm the changes

You've finished the setup for pointing your domain to your Joyent public IP address!  Woohoo!
